Chesapeake Conservation Atlas
The NPS Chesapeake Bay Office worked with NatureServe, Chesapeake watershed states, and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), to develop the Chesapeake Conservation Atlas filling a need for a publicly accessible, watershed-wide land conservation priority system. Its purpose is to support collaboration among many partners in land conservation efforts throughout the Chesapeake region. The Chesapeake Conservation Partnership continues to significantly expand the atlas, including housing all of the mapping components of the Chesapeake Conservation Atlas on the site.
Narrative Toolkit: Tools for Communicating Conservation Messages
This toolkit presents a shared narrative intended to unite and bolster land conservation efforts across the diverse landscapes within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The toolkit also includes tools and resources for partnership members to implement and tailor the narrative to be relevant to their work and priority audiences.
- Narrative Toolkit: Provides all the guidance for using the narrative and tools.
- Message Box: As described in the toolkit, this template helps you create your own messaging based on the narrative.
- Spiel Worksheet: The toolkit includes instructions on how to use this template for crafting your pitch.
- Visual Tools: The toolkit includes examples of how to use images to help communicate your messages; files of powerpoint slides, images and more can be found here.
Green Space Equity Mapper
The Green Space Equity Mapper assists in identifying and prioritizing conservation opportunities in low-income communities and communities of color throughout the watershed with limited or no access to open space. This web-based map tool includes a set of interactive map layers to assist all government agencies, land trusts, and other conservation organizations and community groups in identifying areas most in need of green spaces within or immediately proximate to them and how these areas relate to demographics, community risks, and land cover.
Conservation Collaborative Map
View an interactive map that visualizes conservation collaboratives in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
The conservation collaborative boundaries shown in this map were developed in coordination with the Land Trust Alliance. Additional datasets are included in the map to provide additional context, including land trust service areas (developed with assistance from the Land Trust Alliance and WeConservePA). Federal Funding Navigator
The Federal Funding Navigator is currently early access and for partners only.
Overburdened and Underserved Communities in Maryland
In 2022, Maryland codified definitions for the terms “overburdened” and “underserved” communities, via the Climate Solutions Now Act. In order to better understand where these areas are located and the communities impacted the Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund worked with a project-based intern to map the areas as defined in law. This Web Mapping Application was developed by a partnership between Maryland League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and Chesapeake Conservation Partnership and is hosted by Chesapeake Conservancy
